Finger Lickin’ Good Anti-aging Facial Scrub

Never in my life have I encountered such pleasure from washing my face as I do now. Showering has taken on an entirely new meaning ever since I received my cobalt blue jar of BRYCE Pomegranate Facial Scrub. I no longer see scrubbing myself clean as just a necessary hygiene routine. Instead, it’s become a deliciously sweet cleansing experience. Why & how you ask? Because I can’t stop licking the sugary fruit facial scrub from my fingers! It’s perfectly safe to do so too. BRYCE’s organic anti-aging face scrubs are made from 100% certified organic ingredients (view ingredients). Mmmm my face scrub tastes like dessert. How many people can say that about their scrubs?!

BRYCE’s award winning Pomegranate Facial Scrub is a beauty staple in my bathroom, but I’m sure my crowded kitchen shelves would be happy to make space for it. Founder & CEO of BRYCE, Adrian Bryce Diorio, never skimps on his products’ ingredients. In addition to using extracts, BRYCE actually uses one half to one whole organic fruit including seeds, shavings or zest!

I may not be privy to BRYCE’s trademark secret that makes them truly unique, but I don’t care. I’m still reaping all of the benefits their innovative products provide. For instance, the gentle pomegranate exfoliant never clogs my pores, and always leaves my skin feeling refreshed and nourished. I’ve become an avid user of the scrub, yet I’m still blown away by the results every time I use it. The powerful antioxidants in BRYCE’s pomegranate formula fight free radicals and stimulate the production of collagen. (FYI – the breakdown of collagen is what causes wrinkles). My face is super hydrated and left looking naturally bright! At first I was concerned that I hadn’t washed all of the scrub off. Then, I realized nothing was wrong with my washing technique…I had just become too accustomed to stripping moisture from my skin with harsh cleansers. Those dry, flaky days are over now that I have BRYCE. Other perks I enjoy include a balanced complexion and the appearance of smaller pores.

Who knew washing your face could feel and taste so great?!

Oh and believe me, I’m not the first to notice how great BRYCE’s organic beauty products are. BRYCE has received numerous accolades from notable sources such as Vogue, Yoga, Green Living, Skin Inc., and Natural Health.

Shop the BRYCE collection now online (click here for store locations) and see their entire line of amazing beauty products. I think I need to have a chat with Adrian about teaming up for another eco-fashion trunk show. How fun does that sound?! Eco-fashion and organic beauty intermixed!

Pop IN Soon to the Ananas Pop UP Store

Time’s ticking and before you know it the Ananas pop up store will have vanished like Alice in Wonderland did down the rabbit hole. So here’s my advice to all you NYC fashionistas – hightail your sexy booty over to 248 Elizabeth St. in NoLIta before March 15th and indulge in handbag heaven!

I strolled over to the charming Ananas pop up store yesterday and was personally greeted by the designer, Jennifer Lagdameo, herself! She was incredibly warm and inviting. It’s always great to meet designers because their passion for what they do is so infectious and enlivening.

Below is a picture of Jennifer posing next to a few of her creations. See the Coco cork clutch & Nealy bag above it on the shelf?! My hands were all over them yesterday.

I felt like a kid in the candy store as I oogled all the bags on display. I even had the chance to get up close and personal with the new fall ’09 collection. You won’t be disappointed.

It’s time you see firsthand how beautiful these bags are and snag a few at their discounted prices! There’s no hiding the fact that we’re in a recession – so don’t be silly, take advantage of the sample sale prices. Plus, for every handbag sold, Trees for the Future will plant 1 tree in the Philippians. For every eco-collection handbag sold, Trees for the Future will plant 10 trees. Yes, I said TEN trees.

WHO: Ananas
WHAT: Pop Up Store/Sample Sale
WHERE: 248 Elizabeth Street (bet. Houston & Prince)
WHEN: January 31-March 15 12pm-7pm

Also, after you pop into Ananas and satisfy your fashion craving, I highly recommend walking down the street to 229 Elizabeth for a delicious meal at Café Habana. This popular hangout is famous for its Cuban cuisine, lightweight prices, and now a new twist - it's become an eco-eatery! Biodegradable corn-starch cups and silverware, post-consumer recycled paper goods, and high-efficiency lighting are just a few of the changes taking place at the Café. So stop at the corner of Elizabeth & Prince and order a mojito while you’re there. They make some of the best!

Fashion Delights on the EcoLove Runway

Last Friday’s EcoLove fashion charity event was awe-inspiring. First, Bobby Kennedy, Jr. fired up the crowd with his passionate speech about Riverkeeper, and the importance of keeping our rivers & water shed’s protected. Then the eco-fashionista’s hit the runway to model the latest style designs by Hessnatur, cmarchuska, John Patrick Organics, and Allison Teich’s two lines AGAIN NYC & TEICH.

Here are just a few of the sexy sustainable styles worn on the runway that night.

I call this style “Sassy Daytime”

Co-host/model Ariel seen here strutting down the runway in the white Anna dress by cmarchuska, holding a brightly colored clutch by AGAIN NYC. Brooklyn handbag designer, Allison Teich, creates her unique, fashion forward AGAIN NYC bags from recycled materials. She’s savvy about where she finds her materials too. Allison uses vintage fabrics and buttons found in antique shops, garage sales, etc. Any leather that’s used in her bags is “dead-stock leather” (left over from a large handbag company no longer in business). Each AGAIN NYC bag is made in limited edition batches since they’re created from recycled materials. Therefore, it’s highly unlikely you’ll ever run into someone with the same bag.

“Hipster EcoChic”

“Whimsical & Flirty”

Co-hosts Ariel & Kiara modeling springtime designs by John Patrick Organics.

“Sophisticated Work Style”

The models poured down the runway. It was so hard to keep up with the different designers and all the fashions, but I loved it! To top it off, each attendee at the show went home with an organic tee from Hessnatur's line. Talk about love?! EcoLove rocked! I can't wait to see what these girls come up with the next Fashion Week this summer.

Dem Boys & Their Shoes…

I may be an uptown girl, but I love me some sexy downtown boys. Hmmm… I think I just had a flashback to the days of Billy Joel wooing Christie Brinkley. Today I’m gonna share a little secret with you fellas who are still trying to figure out what women want. You may think we want a “bad boy,” but the truth is we don’t. What we really want is a “nice guy” who can pull off that rebel without a cause, “bad boy” style. So guys, here’s some sexy eco-fashion that’s sure to give you an edge and drive all the women wild. They say you can tell a lot about a man by the shoes he wears – so let’s see what the eco-friendly kicks by Autonomie Project are all about!

Autonomie Project is a new Fair Trade fashion company offering stylish sweatshop-free, eco-friendly footwear, clothing and accessories. Hands down there best styles are their classic high-top sneakers. Made from 100% Fair Trade-certified organic cotton canvas and a tough rubber sole, these sneaks are the new Earth-friendly rage. The sole is produced with FSC-certified all natural and sustainable latex. Not quiet edible as some of my friends wish them to be, but FSC-certified means that the rubber comes from sap that’s been tapped from a tree growing in a well managed forest. Autonomie Project has a soul. Their rubber soles aren’t made from chemicals like other rubber products. Plus, all the dyes used on the canvas are PCP and AZO free. So you can feel guilt free about adding a splash of color to your footwear.

Autonomie Project’s mission is to supply high-quality, stylish fashions to consumers seeking to make purchases that align with their values without sacrificing their own personal style. All while making a positive social impact on our earth and raising awareness about today’s most pressing global issues. Their thirst for eco-fashion and creating a greener environment reaches across the world. Autonomie Project works exclusively with small, independent cooperatives and Fair Trade-certified facilities located in developing countries. They allot a portion of their funds to be used for initiatives that will uplift their workers’ entire community. They fund projects such as building health clinics and bringing steady water supplies to small villages.

If you’re ready to add a dash of style to your wardrobe, it’s time you check out Autonomie Project. Just beware – you’ll encounter lots of animals while wearing these sneakers - WOMEN. One glimpse of you walking by in Autonomie Project’s kicks and they’ll be chasing you down for your number. Other than sexy, wild women, you won’t find any other animals because their shoes are 100% vegan.

I think I've fallen in love!

Handbag Indulgence @ Sample Sale prices!

I think I love pop up stores just as much as children love pop up books! There's such excitement in discovering what's next.

I'm letting the cat out of the bag... I've got some insider shopping info that all my fellow New Yorkers need to know. Now is your chance to snatch a luxury Ananas handbag at a fraction of the price.

After the raging success of June 08’s Ananas @ 52 pop up store on NYC’s Lower East Side, Ananas' designer, Jennifer Lagdameo has decided to open another Pop Up store in NYC, this time in the charming Nolita neighborhood. Tucked on Elizabeth Street, this underground shopping destination will house everyone’s favorite bags from this season. Also, fashionistas rejoice--Jennifer dug deep into her archives for the occasion, and the store will feature original, “vintage” Ananas pieces from the collection’s beginning as well as one-of-a-kind styles to make all of your friends jealous.

Yet another reason to high tail it downtown to the Pop Up: In addition to one-of-a-kind and out-of-stock bags, the Ananas Nolita Pop Up Store will feature sample sale prices up to 75% off. For this limited time run, Ananas favorites will be available at drastically reduced prices. (i.e. The Furoshiki, normally $310, is $150. ABOUT ANANAS COLLECTION:

Handmade in New York City, Ananas handbags combine unique materials such as custom tropical wooden hardware, abaca, and mother-of-pearl with rich Italian leathers. Designer Jennifer Baum Lagdameo takes her inspiration for the line from the time she spent living in the Philippines and Japan, and the Ananas range pays homage to its roots. Each bag combines natural elements with vintage inspired designs-to create a look that is as fun and adventurous as the Ananas girl! We hope that your bag takes you on many wonderful journeys. Ananas merges natural elements with vintage inspired designs.

For every Ananas leather bag that is sold, a tree is planted through Trees for the Future, a non-profit organization that works with areas in the Philippines most affected by de-forestation, and for every eco-friendly bag sold, ten trees are planted. Ananas’ signature wooden hardware is custom-made in the Philippines from a sustainable source and by restoring tree loss, Ananas is lessening the imprint they leave on the area.

Fashion Week & the Department of Sanitation – NYC Recycling 101

What does Sexy Sustainable Style, the Department of Sanitation and Fashion Week have in common? A fashionable lesson in learning how to reduce waste & recycle properly.

I recently had the opportunity to meet NYC’s Deputy Chief of the Department of Sanitation at the DEX New York after party @ Cain. As silly as it may sound, I was thrilled to speak with him so I could discuss the rules of NYC’s recycling. As any New Yorker knows, recycling in the city can be incredibly confusing. Does the plastic peanut butter jar go in the trash or recycling bin? Where do you put the wire hangers with cardboard? How about the cardboard Chinese take-out containers?

Many residents, including myself, are confused about what to recycle because so many products display the universal recycling symbol. Some manufacturers voluntarily place a number inside the recycling symbol on their plastic products, but these numbers only serve to identify the plastic resins used in manufacturing, and do NOT indicate that the item is recyclable.

After my talk with the Deputy Chief, I felt it was time to take a crash course in NYC’s recycling program. Here’s what I learned!

The only plastics accepted for recycling in New York City are bottles & jugs (with necks smaller than their bodies). All other plastic containers and all other plastic items should be placed in the regular trash — even if they are labeled #1 PETE or #2 HDPE.
DO NOT place items in your recycling containers just because the package contains a recycling symbol or other recycling information. When in doubt, leave it out.

After reviewing the Dos & Don’ts list to recycling, I’ve realized that I’m definitely guilty of improperly recycling materials. Until now, I’ve always had the idea of, “when in doubt, leave it in” because I figured if I was wrong someone else would pull it out.

I hope this brief lesson helps clarify questions you may have had about recycling. In my opinion, NYC needs to start accepting more plastic recyclable materials! What do you think?

Dinosaurs…Taking Fashion back to its Roots

Move over T-Rex – we need to make room for some of the hottest eco-friendly fashion designers around. You’re a meat eater, so I suggest you find a spot in the back and let everyone else gobbled up the greenery.

Friday night’s Be EcoChic show jump started Fashion Week with a burst of green and a blast from the past. Held at The Museum of Natural History, this event was developed to raise eco-friendly awareness and promote the use of eco-sensitive fabrics and recycled materials. On this night, cavemen in fur pellets were pushed aside to make room for the industries' top eco-friendly labels such as Edun, Linda Loudermilk, Azzedine Alaia (vintage), Vena Cava, and Carmen Marc Valvo. Spectators watched as a slew of models and celebrities, including Lauren Hutton, Dominique Swain and Alek Wek to name a few, sashayed down the runway wearing this year’s sexiest eco-styles. What’s great is that all materials used were either recycled or made with organic materials.

At the end of the show, celebrities and VIP’s gathered for the Be EcoChic after party in the specially designed eco-lifestyle lounge created by Project GreenHouse. This show was all about sexiness and sustainability. It's only going to get bigger and better as the Green movement continues to grow.
Mmmm I love fashion...

Unstoppable in the Christine Dress

It was like a hurricane the other day here in NYC! People were nearly blown over by the strong gusts of wind whipping around. It didn’t matter to me though how nasty the weather was because I had Pre-Fashion Week events to attend! I just needed to be smart about selecting an outfit to brave the storm. I didn’t want to be, “that girl,” peeling off layers of clothing at the party. My goal was to keep it simple. I would wear something that would have a dual purpose – to make me look sexy and battle the brutal weather at the same time. That’s where the Christine Dress by designer cmarchuska came into play…

This black, long-sleeve A-line button dress is made from 50% cotton and 50% modal fabric so it’s incredibly durable, soft & warm! I added tights & heels to give it a dressy evening look for the events, but what’s great about the dress is its versatility. You can easily dress it down for a daytime look by pairing it with your favorite skinny jeans & ballet flats.

Another perk of this dress is that you don’t need to wear a lot of accessories with it. It’s equipped with its own character -- unique Italian recycled polyester buttons. I just added some extra pizzazz with a stylish clutch and my outfit was complete. The only place you won’t see the Christine Dress is in your closet!

Designer Christine Marchuska’s pieces are sizzling hot. Visit cmarchuska now to shop & view more upcoming designs from her Signature Collection.

Men's Natural Skin Care - An Invigorating Valentine's Gift

I can think of several dirty ways a woman can wake up her man on Valentine’s morning, but why not try something a little cleaner? Give the gift that buzzes - Burt’s Bees Natural Body Wash. Help your hard-working man revitalize his body as he washes away dirt and odor.

Sexy Showering “How To” Tip:

1) Apply a small amount of Burt’s Bees Natural Body Wash to a loofah or your hands and lather generously.

2) Rub the foamy suds all over his body from head to toe. You want him smelling irresistible, right? Don’t forget to scrub his feet then!

3) Pause. Take a minute to both breathe in the stimulating aroma of citrus, cypress & fir oils. The smell will be intoxicating.

4) Rinse then towel dry.

After this shower, your man’s body will feel intensely clean, but I guarantee his mind won’t. ;-)

Did You Know?

Did you know that 60% of what we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bodies? That’s scary! Imagine the potentially harmful toxins that have seeped into our pores. Why risk using synthetic products when there are better, natural alternatives?

It’s NOT Halloween so DON’T be Tricked by the Word “Natural!”

Consumers beware. A natural ingredient does not equal a natural product. Just because a product claims to be “all natural” or “100% natural” doesn’t mean that it is. Even certified “organic” products are only required to use 70% organic materials and the rest can be anything else. Eeks… It’s important to read labels. Don’t be tricked by marketing ploys. Be leery of official sounding words & fancy “endorsed seals” on product packaging.

What to Really Look For in a Natural Product:

Burt’s Bees, along with other leading Natural Personal Care companies, developed a set of guidelines (The Natural Standard for Personal Care Products) that dictates which ingredients can and cannot be considered natural. Companies must meet the following four criteria before receiving the Natural Seal:
  • Natural: A product labeled “natural” should be made up of natural ingredients and be manufactured with appropriate processes to maintain ingredient purity.

  • Safety: A product labeled “natural” should avoid any ingredient that research shows may have a suspected human health risk.

  • Responsibility: A product labeled “natural” should use no animal testing in its development

  • Sustainability: A product labeled “natural” should use (bio)degradable ingredients and the most environmentally sensitive packaging.

Learn more about Burt’s Bees and their mission to ensure The Greater Good for All. You’ll quickly understand why these natural products are highly acclaimed.

The clock is ticking, and Valentine’s Day is near! So run over to your local grocery store or CVS after work today and pick up a bottle of this invigorating body wash! You shouldn’t have any problems finding Burt’s Bees either considering it’s carried in nearly 30,000 retail outlets.

Cover Your Naughty Bits with Belabumbum

As your style source for all things sexy and sustainable, it’s imperative that I keep abreast of the newest eco-fashions. That’s why I’ve pulled some strings to get my hands on Belabumbum’s Spring/Summer 2009 lingerie look book. Ladies, get ready because this collection is sassy!

Belabumbum’s newest lingerie collection has something to suit the personality vibes of every woman. For instance, the vibrant and exotic prints of their nighties are perfect for women with “vivacious” attitudes, and the lace bras & panties will capture the hearts of “flirty romantics.” Whether you’re on the prowl for casual loungewear or something to sizzle in the bedroom, there’s definitely a style for you!

In my case, one glimpse at Belabumbum’s new look book and I was sold. I had to get my naughty bits into their luxurious eco-lingerie! Luckily for me, co-owner Heidi Rauch was able to make my wishes come true and sent me one of Belabumbum’s new bamboo basics set. I was thrilled to receive my pale pink, ribbed cami and girlshort. The body hugging cut of super soft fabric trimmed with lace creates a sexy feminine look. This light weight sustainable duo is perfect to wear during the warmer months, especially since bamboo has antibacterial properties that fight odor and wicks away moisture.

Slip yourself into Belabumbum and experience true bliss like I have!

To learn more about this fabulous eco-conscious company, read my previous post called Pretty & Perky with Style.
